Graduate Student Assembly Roles and Duties

President

Baruch College CUNY Graduate Student Assembly. Since 1920.

The President shall serve as the Chief Executive Officer and primary spokesperson of the GSA and shall be ultimately responsible for ensuring that the GSA maintains compliance with all City University of New York (CUNY), USS, and Baruch College policies.
The President will be the default chair of all GSA meetings and implementer of meeting agendas. Further, the President will be the default graduate representative for the Baruch College Association Board of Directors and Auxiliary Enterprise Board. The President may also appoint other members to temporarily fulfil any of the duties prescribed in this subsection and delegate additional responsibilities to board members.
In conjunction with the Treasurer, shall authorize all fiscal expenditures of the GSA.
Shall have the power to suspend any member who does not fulfil their duties as outlined in this charter. The President shall have the power to suspend any member for major policy violations.

Vice-President

In absence of the President, the Vice-President shall serve as the temporary President of the GSA meeting.
Shall assist the President in all substantive tasks.
Shall coordinate with board members in timeline and completion of projects (Project management).
Shall oversee the application process for all committee vacancies requiring graduate student representation.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is primarily responsible for all fiscal affairs concerning the GSA and all graduate standard organizations. Further, the Treasurer shall ensure that the GSA is operating within all CUNY and Baruch College budgetary and financial regulations.
Shall serve as the primary consultant for all financial concerns. Additionally, shall send all budgets to their respective groups and review all financial paperwork.
Shall maintain a transparent digital financial ledger for all parties and provide a digital copy to the board when requested.
In conjunction with the President, shall oversee distribution of stipends to board members.

Secretary

The Secretary shall draft and keep a record of minutes for all GSA meetings.
Shall be responsible for all internal communication and clerical duties including but not limited to: answering phones, greeting students, GSA conference room reservations, filing duties, bookkeeping duties, organizing office activities, ordering and restocking office supplies.
Shall have administrative access to GSA email account.

Director of Special Events

Shall be responsible for the organization and planning of all GSA socials.
Shall organize all internal professional development activities and retreats.

Director of Communications and Director of Social Media

Shall maintain the GSA website.
Shall create the monthly GSA newsletter.
Shall be the primary contact for all non-budget and social media related communications to students.
Shall coordinate with the Director of Social Media on advertisement efforts as well as public service announcements and external campaigns.
Shall have administrative access to GSA email account.

University Student Senate Representatives

Shall be in accordance with the responsibilities outlined in Article 2, Sections 2.3 and 2.4 of the Constitution and Bylaws of the USS CUNY. The responsibilities, in brief, are as follows:
Shall represent the interests of the graduate student population of Baruch College.
Shall attend all regularly scheduled or unscheduled meetings of USS and of their respective USS Standing Committee.
Shall provide either a substantive written or verbal report of the most recent USS meeting. The written report must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the next scheduled GSA meeting.
Shall advertise all upcoming USS events and opportunities.

School Representatives

Shall serve as the liaison for each respective school and coordinate between appropriate administrative bodies and the GSA.
Shall advocate for and represent each respective school’s population.
Schools are encouraged to recommend students for this position.
